Burnout – or menopause?
Midlife Mind · For women 42–55
Burnout
– or menopause?
You wake up at three. You lose your words mid-sentence. You don't recognize your own body – and no one has explained why.
Do you recognize yourself?
Five of these. Then the book is written for you.
- Wakes up between two and four, without cause
- Heart races when you're still
- Words disappear mid-sentence
- Shorter fuse than you recognize
- Weight settles around the waist
- Sugar cravings every afternoon
- Stiff, sore joints in the morning
- Tiredness doesn't go away after a weekend
- You want to go home from things you used to enjoy
- You silently wonder what's wrong with you
There's nothing wrong with you. It's two systems colliding – and there's an order to address them in.
Why now?
Two curves cross at your age
The hormonal transition often begins around 45. At the same time, the heaviest burden of working life falls on women in exactly the same decade. They meet the same woman, in the same year – and reinforce each other.
women with menopausal symptoms had sleep problems.

The method
Four levers – not fifty rules
You don't need a new lifestyle. You need four things that affect both the stress system and the hormonal transition simultaneously, in the right order. Sleep first, always.
Light and rhythm
Tells the body what time of day it is. With a specific variant for the dark months, when Sweden works against you.
Food that calms blood sugar
No diet, no prohibitions, no counting. A change in breakfast does more than everything else combined.
Strength
Two sessions a week, twenty minutes, at home. Not to burn calories – but to retain what otherwise disappears.
Wind-down and boundaries
Four minutes of breathing, a closing ritual – and the mental list no one else sees you carry.
Understand what's happening. Why the body stopped responding to what always worked – and the chapter that answers the question in the title: what speaks for exhaustion, what speaks for menopause, and why the answer is most often both.
The four levers. The entire method, explained so you know why you do each thing – not just that you should.
21 days. One thing per day. Week 1 calms the nights. Week 2 stabilizes energy. Week 3 builds strength and boundaries. Nothing is removed again.
The toolkit. The 21-day log, 12 breakfasts with 25g protein, two 20-minute sessions with exercise descriptions – and the two templates below.
What most people say is most valuable
The words you need for the doctor
A fifteen-minute doctor's visit becomes something entirely different when you arrive with three weeks of documentation instead of "I don't feel well." The book includes a ready-made template for you to fill in:
- The sentence summarizing your complaints – to practice before the visit
- Symptom table with time, frequency, and impact on daily life
- Five specific questions to ask, including which tests are reasonable to request
- What you can do if you don't feel heard
- Plus: a template for the conversation with your boss – without needing to mention a single diagnosis
Straight to the point
What the book is – and isn't

Questions
What you wonder before buying
How soon will I notice something?
Afternoon energy and sugar cravings usually move within seven to ten days. Patience around the same time – it's often the family who notices it before you. Sleep is slower: expect three to six weeks before the pattern is stable, and expect individual bad nights even thereafter.
I don't know if it's menopause or stress.
That's exactly the question the book's third chapter addresses. You get a signal-by-signal comparison, three questions that usually differentiate them, and a clear list of when to stop reading and book an appointment instead. The most common answer is that it's both – and then the order is the same: sleep first.
Does it work if I'm already on hormone therapy?
Yes. The four levers are things you do yourself alongside the treatment and do not conflict with it. All treatment questions are decided with your doctor.
I am on sick leave for exhaustion.
First and foremost, follow your care plan. Week 1 and parts of week 2 are usually compatible with rehabilitation, while strength training may be too much in an acute phase. The book clearly states where that line is and when you should do less, not more.
Is this a diet?
No. No calories, no forbidden foods, no fasting, and nothing extra to buy. The nutrition part is about one thing: making the daily blood sugar curve flatter, and that starts with breakfast.
How much time does the program take?
About ten to fifteen minutes per day, plus two sessions of twenty minutes during week 3. Most of it is a reallocation of what you already do: when you turn on the light, when you drink coffee, what you eat for breakfast.
In what currency do I pay?
The price is automatically shown in your local currency and you pay in that currency. The store's base currency is USD, so the amount is converted to your currency when the page loads and at checkout.
In what format does the book come?
PDF, directly to your email after purchase. It works on mobile, e-reader, and computer, and the log and templates are designed to be printed on A4 if you prefer paper.
Who wrote it?
Midlife Mind publishes practical guides for women in midlife. The book is not written by healthcare professionals and does not provide medical advice – it is based on publicly available information from, among others, 1177, the National Board of Health and Welfare, Läkemedelsboken, and Afa Försäkring, and all sources are listed in the book's last chapter so you can verify them yourself.
